Entrepreneurship Weekly Assignments: Week 4

Entrepreneurship

Overview

This week we will introduce our APS SchoolLinks platform to help us plan, manage, and follow our career paths.

Friday, September 19th

Classwork

I'm going to pitch an idea to you today that I hope you will find fun and engaging. Since our goal in this course is to learn how to start and run businesses, let's do that by going through the process as closely as we can, step-by-step. I'll explain what that would look like in class, and we can talk about how we could do it.

We'll also reflect on the submissions made for the Investigate My Career assignment. As I keep telling y'all I will be learning along with you this year. I was hoping you would use the assignment to take a deeper dive into your career choice. I'll blame myself for not making my instructions more explicit.

After that we'll watch a video about Industrial Commons the sister solidarity economy ecosystem to PODER Emma, the one we learned about last class.

A group of us in Virginia are working to learn from these two projects in the hope that we can apply their lessons to building better local economies in our area.

Wednesday, September 17th

Classwork

We'll start class by watching a short video about PODER Emma, one of two solidarity economy ecosystems that your teacher is actively studying. Next class we'll see a video about the other one.

After the video, those who have not selected a career of interest in APS SchoolLinks will do so.

After that you will complete the Investigate My Career assignment in Canvas and answer the five questions about your chosen career.

Monday, September 15th

Classwork

We'll begin class with today a discussion of what a PDF file is and talk about why I will want you to submit your presentations in that format (and how to get them in that format). I'll also restate why deadlines in the class will be so important and why you need to do your best to meet them. We'll reflect briefly on our performance on the career cluster presentation assignment submission and talk about how we can make that more effective next time.

Then we will share the short Career Cluster presentations we were assigned last week. There are 15 of these, so it may take most of the class, but if time permits we will also login to our SchoolLinks accounts and maybe even complete the career interest survey.
