BUS 116 Goals: Week 7

BUS 116

Overview

This week we will start the first projects of our project circles.

Thursday and Friday, October 15th and 16th

Classwork

I will be out on Friday, but I know I can depend on my awesome students to follow through on the assignment in my absence.

Look through the slide presentation Cooperative Governance in Context, presented in my graduate school class last night by my classmate Radika Sharma, which is a summary of this article.

We'll talk about this in class on Thursday. Friday's class will have to wait until next Tuesday for us to discuss it together.

Today in class you should:

  • USECE Circle: Have your circle leader email me at jde232@email.vccs.edu with a list of the questions you got wrong and why you got them wrong, along with how you will get them right next time you see a similar question. Note: In period 5B, Daniel and Eric should submit their shared evalution, and Gavin should bring me his on Monday.
  • SBE Circles: Have your circle leader email me at jde232@email.vccs.edu with your completed business canvas model plan.
  • Solidarity Economy Teach-In: Take a look at Case Study: Poder Emma. Working in subgroups of no more than 3 people, research other examples of solidarity economy ecosystems (see the section titled Building Regional Solidarity Economies on this web page for a definition of solidarity economy ecosystem). I'll provide you with two examples I know of here: The Guild in Atlanta and The Industrial Commons in Morganton, North Carolina, but I would love for you to find other examples that I'm not yet aware of. Begin working on a case study for your ecosystem using the one I provided as a model.

Make sure your circle leader emails me a PDF with your work by the end of class. This is a grade assignment and I will not accept late submissions.

Tuesday and Wednesday, October 13th and 14th

Classwork

Today you will begin work on your first project circle projects. In brief, here is what you need to do:

  • USECE Circle: Using the study guide, vocabulary list, and your pre-test results, develop a study plan to prepare for the mid-year test. I will give your group another answer sheet. Together, complete it with what you agree together. I'll scan it again and we'll see how you can do as a group.
  • SBE Circles: Using the Business Model Canvas Template as a guide, work together on a business plan for your school based enterprise.
  • Solidarity Economy Teach-In: Meet with me to talk about the email I sent you over the weekend.
